The Weekly Timetable
In September, 2008, Eton returned to a pattern of 35 schools per week, each of 40 minutes. Chambers occurs every morning between third and fourth schools. Boys have their elevenses and masters meet in either school hall or upper school (pictured) to transact business, listen to announcements, and generally fraternise. These meetings are one of the main ways in which masters monitor the progress of boys since all masters can guarantee to find either a boy's house master or his deputy to discuss significant matters that require attention. Chambers is also the main occasion on which house masters discuss suitable punishments for boys who have over-stepped the mark with the head master and lower master in order that boys may subsequently by summoned to appear in the bill.
The table shows the structure of the week, including the timings of each school and some indication in some cases of some of the many other activities that can occur. Teaching occurs in all the unmarked schools.

Ten minutes between schools are allowed because some boys have a long way to travel from one side of the school to the other, for example in moving from a science school to art. Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays are called "whole" schooldays; Tuesdays and Thursdays are called "half holidays".
