The Tennis Campaign

Begun by OEs and Parents in 2007, the Tennis Campaign aims to improve Eton’s Tennis Centre, which is one of the largest school centres in the country and plays host to top school tournaments including hosting the Senior Independent Schools’ Tennis League.

The first stage of our project in 2007 involved the renovation of five match courts to a top quality tournament standard. These courts have proven enormously popular. We also have been most fortunate to secure Robin Drysdale as our inaugural Director of Tennis, a post which is already proving invaluable in terms of improvement of focus on Tennis as a major sport at Eton. Consequently, we have restructured our fixtures list, with new fixtures adding an increased focus on singles, as well as improved off-season coaching programmes. Eton Tennis is developing great strength and depth and the School’s competitive future is bright indeed.

The next stage of our project is the renovation of the remaining 15 courts, ten in synthetic clay during summer 2008 and five in acrylic in 2009; all to tournament standard.  We are also exploring the floodlighting of five courts to enable evening play during winter month the construction of a ‘bubble’ to cover three courts.

The total cost of the first two stages will be over £1m. To date we have raised over £525 000 from the generous support of a number of OEs and parents. We remain extremely keen to maintain the momentum of the project, and welcome additional support.
