Public Benefit

Over the five and a-half centuries of the College’s existence, a wealth of links with the local community has evolved. The Provost and Fellows attach much importance to good relations with the people and organizations in the area and seek actively to extend the College’s reach still further by making its expertise and facilities available to other schools and charitable organizations to the greatest extent possible. The College’s own charitable activity is wide ranging, from its fundamental business of supporting education by the School, including the provision of scholarships and bursaries, to numerous instances of support of organizations or individuals in activities related to Eton’s own educational purpose. Additionally the College goes out of its way to make its rich heritage of architecture and collections accessible to visitors, students, and researchers. Eton's 'public benefit' is described in more detail in the next section.
